Achievements
James's journey began representing Australia in international disabled swimming championships across the Netherlands, Thailand, England, China, and Finland.

The Beginning of an International Career

James Pittar's remarkable journey in competitive swimming began in 1990 when he first represented Australia at the World Championships and Games for the Disabled in Assen, Netherlands. This marked the start of what would become an extraordinary international swimming career spanning more than two decades.

1991: Thailand National Championships

In 1991, James represented Australia at the Thailand National Disabled Championships in Lump Pung province, Thailand, continuing to build his experience in international competition and demonstrating Australia's commitment to Paralympic swimming excellence.

1994: A Pivotal Year

The year 1994 proved to be particularly significant, with James competing in two major international events:

British Blind National Championships - James represented Australia at the swimming pool championships in Essex, England, competing against the world's best blind swimmers.

FESPIC Games in Beijing - James competed in the Far East and Southern Pacific Championships (FESPIC) in Beijing, China, one of the region's most prestigious events for disabled athletes.

1995: Expanding Horizons - World Rowing Championships

Demonstrating his versatility as an athlete, in 1995 James represented Australia in the World Rowing Championships in the Visually Impaired sliding seat division in Tampere, Finland. This showed his ability to excel across different aquatic disciplines, not just swimming.

Foundation for Future Achievements

These early international competitions laid the foundation for James's later achievements in open water marathon swimming. The discipline, determination, and competitive spirit developed during these years would prove essential as he transitioned from pool competition to conquering some of the world's most challenging open water swims.
